When the Escape Becomes the Habit

I must confess that I have an addiction. An addiction that apparently only gets worse when schoolwork gets heavier and more hours are spent typing away. My addiction is eBay (of course). How tempting it is to turn off the brain for a few minutes to troll through screens listing items I feel I should probably have in my life. Add to this the thrill of the hunt, the need for constant vigilance and the bated breath of a bid put in last minute (and always with $.51 added! always!). The glory of an item won, especially at a ridiculous low price, keeps me coming back again and again. The question now seems, should I eBay, or finish this blog entry?

May I present to you my latest eBay purchase.

I've be wanting a caramel brown bag for awhile and I'm a sucker for tooled leather. Now bags and I have always had an uneasy relationship. As a messy person, I find it near impossible to keep one bag organized let alone have the ability to swap bags with any regularity. When I try, I always leave something behind and end up cursing, sans unlimited MetroCard, at the subway turnstile. For most of grad school I have survived throwing everything into my increasingly ratty Longchamp, yet with my new purchase I vow to keep things tidier and switch up more often. Now I wonder, how do my more organized friends do this?

  1. Susan, They do just what you do. they just don't blog about it so everyone knows. Keep posting. Hope to see you Saturday for foodie-ness. - Paul

  2. Your new bag is perfectly Susan! One day I dumped out the contents of my messy bag and realized I only need five important things adn I rather run lean. If I remember to take my metrocard, keys, phone, lip balm and pen, I can make it through the day. Changing purses is easier for me to do in the morning rather than at night. Once I started changing up my purses I started changing up my lipsticks! Paul wishes he had purses and lipsticks :) -Hilly

  3. My bags used to be a bunch of receipts, a bunch of loose change, a tampon that had fallen out of its paper wrapper, tobacco bits and random bits I would acquire from bars. I now have a wallet, my make up bag, my phone and keys. That's it. It helps to have a large wallet...a very large wallet.

  4. my secret is tiny little bags WITHIN my bags. one little pink bag for compact, lipstick, eyedrops, gum. another little pencil case for pens, business cards and other 'serious' items. this way i get to utilize all my cute little cases while easily transferring them from one purse or diaper bag to another. also, this helps prevent that dreaded sludge of debris that inevitably forms at the bottom of your purse. although sometimes that just happens anyway
